Excellent websites for research
This is a list of our favourite websites. They have been judged by the wreck site to be EXCELLENT sources for further research on wrecks.
The
NOAA Office of Coast Survey
has
+1.000 maritime charts and +12.000 wrecks
in US waters, free available for the public! It is a delight to work with them. A good example for European Hydrographic Offices.
nauticalcharts.noaa.gov
J.H.D. van Overbeek
has made a website about some 2.000
VOC (verenigde oostindische compagnie
ships. This database covers much of the ship types, their voyages and fates, but also historical fact about the VOC itself.
www.vocsite.nl
Similar like the wreck site, Ubootwaffe.net is the work of a
community of researchers
. They provide useful tools and easy, open access information about
U-Boats and the Battle of the Atlantic
. They also cover the sinking of ships.
www.ubootwaffe.net
Gudmundur Helgason
has made a U-boat website. His objective with this project is to make it a top quality reference about the
U-boat
arm with maximum accuracy and a very wide scope.
www.uboat.net
This nicely designed website has an
unknown author
, but like most of the excellent websites on the internet, it is the work of a community working together. The website covers almost every aspect of the
Fleet of Spanish ships
.
www.todoababor.es
The website of a
diving club off Dunkirke
is covering all the wrecks in their neighbourhood and far behind. Many ships sunk during the
wordwar
are covered here in detail, including information for divers.
dkepaves.free.fr
The
VIOE (vlaams instituut voor onroerend erfgoed)
has a database of hundreds of wrecks in
Belgian territorial waters
, all in very much detail with true maritime charts! They also cover any object that has a maritime character. Beautifull pictures of findings!
www.maritieme-archeologie.be
Irish Shipwrecks
is a searchable database of ship wrecks on and around the
Irish Coast
. Provides Maritime Researchers and Wreck Divers with information pertaining to the numerous ship wrecks around the coast of Ireland.
www.irishshipwrecks.com
A website by
Paul R. Yarnall
and the NavSource Team, has nearly all the
American ships
and their history in their database. Loads of copyright free images are there.
www.navsource.org
This website has an
unknown author
and treats
all Clyde built ships
, more than 20.000 they have! Too bad for the many ads.. otherwise.. excellent! Again a community working together.
www.clydesite.co.uk
This website is from the
US Navy
and treats the
US Naval History
, they have a huge online library.
www.history.navy.mil
This website is from the
Flemish Hydrographic Office
and has an online
wreck database
, that can be navigated on a chart.
